AOC couldn't develop the roof prism. I beleive it is a part of the original SLR design filed to be patented by... forgot who... someone german again.

It appears Pentax is coming out with at least 3 good lenses in 2007. They will cover the spectrum and be of the F2.8 variety. Cost is up in the air I believe. My question is why didn't they think about this before hand and have the lens available NOW with the introduction of the K100 and K10D? Not a smart move on their part and very short-sighted in my estimation. Gerry

They're made by tokina. I'd look at the MTF ratings first.

I thought they were 3rd party but didn't know who was making them for them. It appears to be a nice camera but i'll stick with my 30D and canon lenses! Gerry

Yes you are right,it was indeed someone german.
This is a part of camera history i never have been able to understand very well.I've read some bits and peices but never quite understood the technical problems.Apparently the first prisms didn't let much light through which made them not very practical, allthough i have no idea why.I think i read somewhere that it was partly a glass issue ,but it's hard to imagine the type of glass making several stops brightness difference:confused:

I used to own a Pentax K100 film camera, used it silly for about 5 years. I like Pentax qaulity, just the lenses are sometimes tough to find. At least back then it was.

Just happened accross and interesting page on a pentax screw mount site.
One shouldn't be TOO impressed by this list (they've missed out vital bits like availablity of decent priced pro lenses ,image stabilization and many other aspects) but it is interesting nevertheless
