This is the smartest use of a credit card that I have heard...
Well, it may or may not be! First of all, congrats to the OP on the new lens and I'm sure my comments do not apply to you. But, for many of us, a credit card points system could leave us in a negative position whether you always pay your balance off in full or not! Here in Canada, most credit card rewards systems give you about a 1% benefit on your purchases, however its a proven fact that if you use your credit card as your front end interface then you will easily spend more than 1% extra than if you were using cash. When you see those bills being handed over and what's left in your wallet, you are just going to think twice about your next purchase and if you really need it. Does this sound familiar, the credit card bill has come in the mail, you are slowing opening it, in your mind anticipating the total and it ALWAYS seems to be more than you thought! You then think, hmmm, maybe I should not have got this or that, or at least not this month. Bottom line is, for most of us, we are going to spend less dealing with cash than credit (even for gas!! - cause you are going to think twice about those extra trips to the corner store..) and we will easily cancel any rewards program. To me, the truly smart way to get that new lens, is a big jar on the dresser and throw in a $10 or $20 bill every week depending what your goal is. At the end of the year, your household bottom-line is going to be further ahead.
