I got this lens about a month ago and absolutely love it. I was worried about the lack of IS, since I predominantly shoot hand-held. However, as long as the lighting isnt terrible and your camera handles ISO well, it is a very useful lens. I recently tried it on a tripod as well to get a slower shutter speed, and it was razer sharp (Although I didn't take anything meaningful to upload and show ). Anyway, I have a few links to pics I figured I would post. I am NOT spamming or trying to draw traffic to my site ( in fact it has barely even been started ). I just prefer this way to to ensure HQ and protection for my images.....and its much faster. Be sure to click the image and then choose the "X2" size.

Those were all shot with a 7D and no flash. I have a better beamer and 580ex., but since you need 1/250th or less for flash sync, it would require a tripod as well. So if the outdoor lighting is decent, I would rather just use the sun ![]() You don't need 1/250 or less ... put your flash on HSS (high speed synch) and you lose that requirement. Good point, but you also wind up with weaker flash bursts. So I guess it depends on the situation. If I was shooting closer up small birds with am extension tube on that may be sufficient, but then again, I have never actually tried it. Have you used HSS with a better beamer?
