Great shots - really like the osprey about to strike - and are those 2(!) fish in his talons?

Thank you both :)

Yup, two fish for the osprey. One in each talon. Was actually able to get an entire dive sequence. Which was a first for me.

And these were shot with the 1D4.

I got restless and went out to practice shooting with my newly acquired 400. I really like this lens a lot. But more importantly I REALLY like how this lens acts with a 2x kenko TC. I don't know how I hand held 1/500 with the 2x TC but miracles happen I guess. Sorry it is just a simple Squirrel :)

I'm very tempted by this lens too, although having just bought the 1DX I'd need to get a used one.

The great news of course is that the 1DX and the 5DMk3 can both use AF at f8 now with the latest Canon firmware update, so that makes this lens even more tempting

Any idea what you might pay for a used one in the UK and has anyone got any experience or heard about any not-so-sharp ones? The pictures on this forum are pretty insane.

Here are some recent shots I took from a road trip to Chincoteague and Blackwater NWRs. These were all taken with the 1.4 extender attached. Was glad to see that the combo works well for in flight shots.

Taken with a rib-paining on the ground session, but was totally worth it!

I have pretty much the same gear as you andthis lens is awesome, very sharp and fast to focus too. As for used ones. I looked into this for quite a while and they're rare despite their age in circulation. However, when I did find one, the price was so close to a new one it wasn't worth it so I bought a new one for £930.
Well worth buying, especially for the 1DX; good luck,

Jeff

Thanks! The eagle shots were taken in the areas surrounding Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Everything else was taken at Chincoteague NWR.

When I was looking, I just posted a thread in the "buy" section here and had a handful of responses within 24 hours. I'm in the U.S. though.

The biggest danger is subscribing to this thread. You make it three pages of photos before you finally cave in and buy the lens out of desperation.
