I have been thinking about getting this lens but have worried that Im going to have the focusing problem, I will be putting it on the 70D, I see a lot of these pictures are shot with the 7D II are you having the same problems with the center focusing as the 70D owners. Thanks Robert

I may just be lucky, but the 400 f/5.6 has paired very nicely with the 70D for me. Nails focus consistently.

Same for me, the focus is lightning-fast and accurate. This shot was very challenging for the lens, because the cars are popping up over the hill at top speed, but the lens just locked right on.

As with my other Canon gear, I'm pretty much the weakest link in the equation. It's a very solid lens. Note that this shot was using my 1.4X II tele-extender, for even more reach.

I'm mainly here for the snacks

First Day out with 400 5.6 and 7D ii. Literally got it yesterday evening (POTN purchase- great transaction). In bad light at ISO 2000.

Nice set. You're getting very nice image quality with the 400 and TC.

I haven't used this lens in a very long (was my main lens and then my sidekick), so because I am soon to be testing the new 100-400 II, I took this lens out today to give it a look to see if it will stay in my stable of lens. One thing became very apparent quickly, I ain't getting any younger and hand holding this lens with no IS on a 1.6 crop body is not as easy as it used to be. It became apparent very quickly as I could see lots of movement when hand holding. I just was not as steady as I used to be and as a result I had to jack up the SS, which in turns requires me to jack up the ISO (I'd like to ISO low as possible) and I had to do more burst shots to get sharper images. Anyway here are a couple shots from the 400 5.6 from today. I don't know about it's fate. I will have to wait to see how the 100-400 II fares on an outing.

No problems with mine on a 70D, but it did require some MFA. I think it was -3.

Curious. Are you'll shooting hand held or on a tripod?
