Long Exposure in Daylight?

Question without further explanation: Is it possible to take a long exposure (10 seconds or more would be nice) in the daylight?

I can do long exposures at night with no problem, but just can't seem to figure out a way to do it with an abundant, natural sunlight. As far as I can figure by expirementation, it's just not possible... But I've been wrong before!

Someone enlighten me, please.

Thanks!

set a high AV number, but depending on your light this might not work. Simple and most commonly used tool is a neutral density filter. It blocks out light and makes long exposures in the day possible.

Ah, so a physical filter... I tried f/22 and still could not get anything to turn out properly, so I imagine it's just too much light. Thanks for the quick response! I'll have to look into a filter.

I appreciate it!

A little more on the ND filter.

Stacking ND filters for long exposures is how you take a picture of a freeway in bright daylight and have zero traffic show up in the photo.

The cars are not in the photo long enough to show be recorded. I'm sure there are other creative uses, but this is the one I remember the most.

Look at the Hoya NDx400 Neutral Density Filter. I can do 30 Seconds at F32 on my tamron 28-75, in full daylight with it. Makes it Interesting, when you can take a picture of a street, and the people and cars disappear when you look at the picture. Also makes for a nice picture of a river or waterfall when you can do long exposures in bright sun light.

Also makes it easier to find out if you have any dust on your sensor ;-)a

You probably allready have. Waterfall pics with ND filters are very common. Postcards , calenders , etc. Bargain bookshops - filled with them :)
I've seen several on POTN today.

search this forum for "waterfall" ; probably half the pics will be with ND filters

If you want something versatile Singh-Ray makes a Varible ND filter. You can twist it like a polarizer to go from 2-8 stops of light. Quite expensive at $340.00, but would be very convienent. It comes in only 77mm ring mount so you may need an step down ring. http://www.singh-ray.com/varind.html (external link)

Best Regards,
Logan
