Has a UV filter ever saved your lens from damage?

I don't use UV filters, and none of my lenses - several of which I bought new 40+ years ago - have any damage to the glass. Many have significant wear to the outer finish, though.

I do use properly designed rigid lens hoods on all my lenses, which I attribute to the ability to keep my lenses in great shape.
