I know this is a photography forum guys but everyone here seems so helpful, I was wondering if anyone had any idea about home theater surround systems. My husband had mentioned he would like one, and our anniversary is soon. Anyone has any suggestions? My budget is about $300-400... Thanks

No specific suggestions, but if you are a Costco member see what they have to offer. With their liberal return policy, if he doesn't like it, it's at least a no hassle return.

at $300-400, just about any Sony surround "system in a box" will do. it includes everything you need DVD, AMP, all the speakers + a subwoofer.

I'd avoid system in a box unless you really want convenience and don't care much about sound quality.

IIRC Bestbuy had an speakers that sounded amazingly well for the price. I think it was something like $50 for a pair. I'd get two of those (~$100) then a surround receiver.

Here's the giant thread at head-fi: http://www6.head-fi.org …s/showthread.php?t=184546 (external link)

Poke around here: http://www.avsforum.com/ (external link) for a decent surround receiver. That should run you about $300-400 (100 for speakers, 200-300 for receiver) Add a subwoofer down the road, you'll be much happier with sound quality!

Oops, forgot about stands and cables.... that hobby adds up! But those speakers are an awesome deal! I don't think the receiver matters AS much...
