Some people want that advantage of not having to switch the lens?

Resale values aren't always that great and it's handy to have a 'spare' sometimes, Oh, and some people just like collecting cameras :-) (I have 4)

I also think some are keeping their "crop" cameras when they upgrade to FF so they have the advantage of the extension of longer lenses. Am I right?

This is why I have 2 :)
My 10D didn't die yet and its resale value isn't very high so I kept it for those just in case moments. It already has come in very handy when I had to send my 5D in for service. I don't want to imagine being without any camera .

I have 2 cameras with me always. I have my FFwith the nifty fifty and or 28-75. Then 70-200 on the crop body. That way I don't have to switch lens and take the chance of missing something.

shooting drag racing i cannot change lenses full stop the amount of rubber in the attmosphere means that changing lenses WOULD distroy the sensor in a few outings i have 3 oppionts 1 . 2 camera
2. walk a long way off the line which i carnt do as you would loose way too much time
3. only use one lense this is the opption i use as my second set up is used by a friend who shoots pit side stuff and with my 70-200 f2.8 i dont need to change that often

Several reasons.....

a. shoot outdoors alot, sometimes in windy dusty conditions and don't want to change lenses and expose the sensor;
b. don't want to miss potential shots while changing lenses; and
c. how long will Canon have my camera if it needs to be repaired???

Well, why would there be a difference between pros and non-pros? If I as an non-pro want to have fun shooting for instance sports with a long tele on one body and a shorter zoom on a second body (a common pro setup) why should I not do that if I feel like it and can afford it?

I have my 1D for shooting sports and other action, while the 30D offers better resolution and low-light capabilities.

I've hung onto my film body as a backup when I'm on trips.

It's good to have a backup body even if your not a pro. If you have to send it in for service you won't be without a camera for a few weeks.

Also it would be good to carry two in your bag one with a regular 50-mm and the other tele 70-200 just like AmpedPhoto mentioned.

Every one has their own legit reason. Only a very few would of went out and bought 2 bodies at one time unless they found a great offer.

For me i bought my 30D around July. Now I am planing on getting a 5D soon and I'll keep my 30D for it's fast 5 frames a second compared to the 5D's 3 fps.

I upgraded to a 20D because it was more affordable now that it is no longer in production.
the differences imho to the 30d are not enough for me to get that model.
I have my 300d as a backup and my wife can use it whenever she wants it.
\also the batteries are the same and i can interchange all 5 of my batteries :)
