Last time this was asked I said:

I was in the country recently and was told a steam locomotive was due in about 20 minutes. I got to the location recommended , set up my 20D with 200mm lens on a tripod , and had my 5D around my neck with the 17-40.
Got a few shots with the 20D, then got some shots as it passed close by with the 5D.

HUGE ADVANTAGE.

Different cameras do different things and have different features too...

For digital 1.6 crop vs FF is reason enought to have 2 cameras.
Not having to switch lenses, and to have a backup body.

I have a
Canon AE-1 P
Canon 20D
Just bought a Elan 7ne 35mm Film Camera from a PONT member. (So I can use my EF lenses with film too)
Sooner or later id love to buy a Canon 5D as well.
Wouldnt mind a SD600 Canon point and shoot either for when I cant bring my SLR.

When I travel I want to take pictures of my trip. If a camera fails, it is unlikely that it could be repaired locally. Carrying a second body allows me to keep on taking pictures.

At some events it is handy to have two cameras, one with a wide angle zoom and the other with a longer zoom. That allows you to quickly change lenses for different compositions or distances.

All at once?
Stagger them down a runway with a model at the end, each camera with a different lens? Then just shoot and move, shoot and move...........

So long and thanks for all the flash

FF (5D) for most uses. I sold my 350D, but may repurchase a crop camera body, proabbly a 400D for extra "reach" when I want it with long lenses (especially my 300 f4 L IS with 1.4 TC which would be 672mm equiv on a 400d body and 10MP) or to have two camera/lens combinations immeditely available.

Also I rather regret selling my 350D - it was superb with a telescope for the total eclipse (see my profile logo).

All at once?

Not exactly.

Usually it's one a time.

I go through this process:
Film or digital?
Do I need zoom?
How large can it be?
Am I going to be mugged?
Soaked?
Am I going to shoot slow or fast?
What quality do I want?

Usually that's enough to narrow it down. :D

I went to my vacation and i came back yesterday, i have same question before and i want to afford many cameras as well.
In my vacation if i didn't take 2 cameras then i will miss alot of shots, in fact i missed some even with 2 cameras, and i got weather sealed camera which is good for dusty and very bad conditions mostly and it is fast, so the missing is Full Frame.

I lug around two on the sidelines of football games, one for a 300 and one for a 70-200, too much to change lenses when the action is right there
