I took my camera to canon for repair and they gave me back the battery. Should I recharge it ? It wasn't dead but it hadn't been recharged in a while.

The advised optimum capacity for Li-Ion cells when it's about to be stored for several months, is around 40%. Well, that would be pretty hard to estimate. How long will stay your camera at Canon?
I don't know about the charger that comes with the 30D, but if it's a blinking 1-2-3-stay lit, like the 20D's, then I'd say you stop charging it at 2 blinks.
Also, it's best to store it in a cooler place (but without moisture).

Doesn't hurt to recharge the batery whenever you feel like it. These aren't like NiCd cells you had to run flat before charging. Shove it on the charger and top it off.
