Can I play with camera settings without a lens on?

I'm just wondering if I can play with camera settings( expposure, AV ISO etc) without a lens on and just have the body cap on it? I know it'd make more sense to put the lens on.

yes you can, i have a body cap with a tiny hole in it (pinhole camera)
it was a kinda stupid idea that i tried and it worked
i think mine is a 51mm, f208 or something stupid

LOl I didn't mean for actually taking photos. I was more worried about damage to the camera if it had no lens on and just the body cap. I just want to look through the settings without having to pull out the lens and whack it on. Sounds like it might just be easier to do so.

Why not just mount the lens on and leave it there. Store the camera with it on.

Cause the bag that I have won't fit the lens attached as well as the grip on it as well. I'd either have to remove the 75-300mm from the bag in order to get it all to fit !

Your meter will have some difficulties with the body cap on the camera. And you won't be able to mess with f-stops.
