A lens or a flash

I am going to buy one of these soon. It's either going to be a Canon 430 flash, or a fast prime (either the 30 1.4 or the 28 1.8 ) I guess eventually, I will have both. But I can only afford 1 right now. With the upcoming holidays and time spent indoors in close quarters, I would like something that will help with low light shots. So, a flash or a fast lens would be good. I just can't decide which way to go.

With the slow zooms you have, I'd buy the flash. Natural light with a fast lens can be a good thing, but it isn't always a substitute for flash.

I would vote for the flash also. IMO it would add more to your arsenal than another lens.

Go with the flash, you have a good selection of lenses, the flash will bring out the extra possibilities in them. Love my 430ex, can't begin to describe the doors flash/lighting open up.

Hey Stefan,

I'd get the flash if I were you. You've got a number of lenses you can use and having the flash will make up for the ones that are not all that fast. I do a lot of low light shooting now with the Sigma 17-70mm and the flash. Works great. And although the 50mm is not wide, it does a great job as well with the flash.

Wow - I thought that it was going to be tie. But the people have spoken. Looks like I am getting a flash :)

That link is insane - it's going to take me a while to go through it. I think the complexity of flashes is one of the reasons why I was leaning towards getting a lens. But I guess I have to learn sometime.
