What would 20D/30D owners need in the upcoming 40D for them be convinced that they need to upgrade? More AF points? Weather sealing? FF? More pixels? Pentaprisms? Better contrast? A 1Ds in 40D clothing? :D

I've still got my 10D... The 20D and 30D, despite being better, didn't offer enough for me to upgrade.... I'm still happy witht the 10D.. It does everything I need..

The introduction of the full frame 5D has me waiting for a sub $2000 full frame camera. This WILL happen in the next few years... Perhaps my next camera will be the 6D :)

Is there really anything you feel you are lacking in what you shoot?
money better spent wisely on glass if you re fairly satisfied with your current camera.

1. More autofocus points
2. Weather sealing
3. More fps

Sounds like I should hold out for a 1DMkIIN, doesn't it? :)

I don't mind about the fps, I would swap to 3fps if I had a bigger sensor, better ISO performance and weather sealing would be a big selling point for me since I have all sorts of trouble keeping my camera out of sticky or wet situations. Better AF would be nice, too. I can't see my upgrade being a 40D - more 5D/equivalent/1 series.

or 1DMKI, 1DMKII

But as i mentioned previously, glass is more important like the 120-300 2.8(heck 300 2.8 IS for about the same price as the N new) or 70-200 2.8.

i went from the 10D to the 20D and now the 5D. I can't handle the weight of the 1D series, but then again, I can't afford the 1D series. :(

The 10D was great, but I was having trouble in low light. The 20D is a great upgrade. It is faster and much better in low light. Noise with high ISO is minimal. The 5D is slower, but with FF, I can do much more with landscapes. Upgrade when you can afford it and when your needs change and your equipment is not longer the best tool. I could keep the 10D and not upgrade at all, but I think the newer cameras allow me less time PP to get what I need out of a shot. At least I hope so. :)

i would love to have weather sealing. but, i'm sure it wouldn't exist at that price point.

Presently have the 30D; I would like:

1) Programmable "print" button (or at least good for something).

2) Maybe a bit higher MP.

3) No noise at any ISO.

4) FF

5) Get rid of the "mickey mouse" presets including the green mode (they are embarrassing). Fortunately nobody I know realizes what they are.

6) A viewfinder that projected more from the body - 10 mm (3/8") more it would be great. What's the big deal? Don't they make bags big enough to accommodate a bigger viewfinder?

Gee, did I just describe the top of the line model?

I'd need 1 series Autofocus and more FPS. I could do without the sealing if it was cheap. I'd also need the money to buy it.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

As long as it has the features I mentioned as well as a magnesium alloy body and a command dial, I'd be a happy camper.

Lens before body. Your cameras have the mag alloy body and command dial. No 8.5 FPS, but it's not needed as much as the actual focal lengths and f/2.8 you can get from the lens i mentioned.

You can get a 1DMKII for the same price as a 5D(if you account for rebates). And possibly even less if you didn't have rebates. MKII's are going for low $2k's.

Hmm, now that I think about it, the best upgrade would be to buy a kit that gets you a 5D-like camera with a 50L lens for less than $2000. :D
