my first stab at shooting a scape - need cc please

i took this shot at mid-day hoping for something resembling a keeper. it's been worked over in ps. i want to go back to the same spot and try to improve on this view. however, i'd like to go back there a little bit more informed and knowledegable about what to consider when doing the re-shoot, as i think it's worthy of another go.

Mid day shots are tough because the light is so harsh. Try it within an hour of sunrise or sunset. I wonder if a composition where a little more sky or background is visible framed by the pond and the tree would work here. There's a lot going, reflections near and far, tree roots, shadows etc. Narrow down the subject matter to portray a theme. What story are you trying to tell?

ok, now that i see where your'e going with this i have to agree that the shot is too busy and stifling. when thinking about incorporating your advice and applying it to the location of the shoot the only problem that comes to mind is that i'm probably going to have to get wet and kick up siltage in the water in addition to creating ripples in the water with every little move i make.

now that sounds like FUN! i also don't have the luxury of setting up on the opposite bank as it's private property with dogs roaming about. and now that the rainy season has arrived, i'm going to have to wait for a week of dry weather to set that shot up again. but hey, who said landscape photography was supposed to be without challenges?

i'm also chomping at the bit for the reshoot because a couple of months ago i downloaded my copy of photomatix pro and wanted to try it out on that location. well, something to look forward to i guess.
