Last night, i went out to shoot some stars for the first time, pics here.

Is it normal, that if i had a 5 min exposure, it takes 5mins to write to the card and a 30min exposure takes 30mins to write to the card? I'm using Sandisk ultra 3.

Yes, it is normal and it has nothing to do with your memory card.
Actually, that is long exposure noise compensation: right after the exposure is taken, camera takes another exposure of the black frame and subtracts it from the original one in order to reduce noise.

You can disable it with C.Fn.2-0 but it does a fairly good job when you need it.

Year i switched it on to reduce the noise, it did do a good job.
