The beautiful night last night motivated me to head over to the beach with the family for a few night time, long exposure shots. Locals should recognize the sites.

Very nice! I'm not local, but that first one reminds me of the cruise ship terminals in Miami.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Those are exceptionally nice shots. I would be interested to know what lens, aperture and length of exposure were used.

Ovi, before I saw your location, #3 jumped right out at me as "SOUTH BEACH!" :D I think my favorite out of the series is #4 for the colors and simplicity of the shot, as well as the sprinkling of stars in the sky. The only thing I DON'T like about it is the noise, but I'm sure that could be smoothed out with NN.

#1 and #2 were taken at 2 different points along Government Cut which is the main navigation channel leading in and out of the port of Miami. #3 and #4 were both taken from South Beach (South Point Park to be exact).

These were all shot with 1DsMkII and 17-40 F4 L at F8 for the most part. They range from 10-30 Seconds. All except the last one were shot at 200 ISO. Last one is 640 ISO (which explains the higher noise). They are all Auto White Ballance.

JT,

I was faced with the decision of processing that last picture in such a way that the sky would be darker and this would have made noise reduction easier. It would also reduce the visibility of the few stars though so I went with a brighter sky. I already did noise reduction on it but I can not get it much cleaner than that.
