I've been looking at PSD's for quite some time. I haven't bought one because I've been able to lug the laptop without much inconvience, and see no need to spend $ until I actually have a need. Besides, the technology keeps improving and price/performance is always getting better.

Yesterday, I was checking about and got this from Hyperdrive's website:

Down for Maintenance ...
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

The site is currently down for maintenance. Please excuse the dust, and try back later. The Admin / Webmaster has enabled maintenance at : 2006-11-11 23:44:19Maintenance period : 99:59

Seems to have been down for quite awhile. Not a good omen for a business that depends on web orders.

Anybody know anything? Are these guys toast?

They shafted me on a free set of batteries with my HD order last month. This past week they said they would make good on it. I don't know what to think with their website down.

They have some new product out now, and if it was me with something new and flashy to sell and having my website down, I'd be ready to kill.

I just cleared cache and tried again. All I get, on every page of their website, is the message I quoted above. Am I the only one seeing this?

Works for me - even if it is a bit disconcerting that any mention of the HD80 seems to have been removed in favour of their new model, looks very spangly but not quite as rugged as the old one !

I have the older Hyperdrive. The newer ones look snazzy but quite honestly as I never seem to use the one I have I don't think they're really that worthwhile.

Look at the costs - $120 for a Hyperdrive with 60GB. How many GB do you use in a day? I reckon at $20 for a 1GB card, $120 will get you 6 cards. On my XT that's about 800 RAW photos.

Now, assuming you even have the time to process 800 RAW photos and the storage space to store 800 RAW photos that's still a hell of a lot of photos.

I might see a point to the Hyperdrive if you use it as a backup device although I think there are cheaper and faster methods of backing up. I use mine as backup for my laptop. I don't use it for anything else.
