Gorgeous!! Well done!

Thank you. I wish I could say I planned the shot and waited for just the right moment to shoot. It was actually a lucky 180 degree turn that handed me the opportunity.

Thanks Cheryl. I agree, as long as I'm not the one doing it! I feel like I spend enough time haying with tractors.

Hi all,

I am rarely a contributor on this thread, but my wife and I do go a Guest Ranch in Wyoming about every 3rd year and that allows me the opportunity for some equestrian shots. (www.eatonsranch.com (external link))

This is one of my favorite shots. I was looking specifically for something to create a shot that was a little more abstract - not necessarily a full face portrait of the animal. I was very happy with this capture as I love both the colors and textures.

For me, it is evocative of a feeling - the foal nuzzling his mother - and less about representation. I was hoping that that would be the general response - beyond just me.

Unfortunately, when I posted in Critique Corner most found it did nothing for them, so I am reposting it here. Any thoughts? Does it grab anyone?

Rad

Rad, I get what you were trying to do but, this photo doesn't work for me. It needs context. It does not evoke mood for me and that is what photography is all about (in my opinion). You have to experiment and be willing to take risks to find what works. I think you're doing that. Then later, when you are looking at them on the computer comes the really hard part, being brutally critical of your work. I've taken thousands of photos that don't work; sometimes I get really lucky and take one that does.

Bob

Edit: I just want to add that if this is a crop, it might be better with more of the photo visible. It looks like a foal with its mother so a little more context and some post processing could help.

Had the opportunity to capture a friend's horse Odin. Except the fact that he ran away on the first try everything went fine :D
