My horse appeared behind me as I sat on the ground waiting for Hummingbirds. She heard a gunshot, and raised her head from the grass long enough to get this headshot. She was so close I had to go vertical with the camera. I even got a fly in-flight!

Great portrait Sandy!! What breed is she? Kind of reminds me of my mare.

^^Thanks Cheryl. She is a Breeding Stock Paint. Her only white spot is on her butt! Her mother is double registered, Paint and Quarter-horse.

Popcorn Deelites, who was one of the horses used in the filming of Seabiscuit, shows he's still got some speed. (Of all the pictures I took as he ran up the hill, this was a best from a form standpoint, but that blasted run-in in the background...)

Why don't you just clone out the "blasted run-in in the background"? This was very fast and very sloppy. You have "image editing" set to "On" so I hope you don't mind. If you do mind, let me know and I'll delete my post.

As I said , just a very fast edit. It could be done a lot cleaner. Just a new layer with a section of the nice area over the run in. And then masked.

No problem. I could have taken the time to clone it out but didn't. Just noting the irony of the best picture in a series of about eight that I took as he ran up the hill was the one with the run-in in the background.

Thank you! She has her moments! I always love seeing your photos of Sage. She is a beautiful color.

Our Photography Club arranged a visit to a local stables/riding club last night (Wednesday). Great fun (there were 20+ 'togs and about 10 horses and riders). A selection of photos from each of us will be given to the stables on behalf of the club.

It as a fun evening, and even though it was still day light, the light was fading - a bit of a struggle for a 7D (supposedly):

Exposure: 1/1250)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 200 mm
ISO Speed: 1600

The 70-200 2.8 IS really shone though, allowing a shutter speed of 1/1250 to freeze the mane and hair.

I have a similar shot with 3 hooves off the ground, but the riders face is covered by the hat's peak...I need to learn Photoshop (edited in Lightroom)

Looking forward to a return visit.
