I know this topic has been discussed but i searched and not much is said about the warranty.

I want to know, if anybody has actually used the mack warranty and how was the process, and was it worth it? I'm moving from an XT to an XTI(don't call me a gearwhore, I'm spending $200 between the transition)

The reason I'm debating on going with a mack warranty vs. a retailer warranty, is because price. B&H has the xti without the lens for 739.99 + 70.00 mack warranty vs. $811 + 100.00 warranty from retailer, and that's HUGE savings.

Any input would be nice.

I'm fairly certain there was a post that talked about the actual process, the general consensus is just insure your gear, so if it breaks you have it taken care of and you know you'll get treated right. I look at extended warranties on gear like the ones for cars, they might help you, but is it really worth the bloat to the price.

Yes! The Mac extended warranty is worth every penny. It can't be compared with your ordinary "extended warranty" which is usually just an excuse for the retailer to con a bit more cash out of you!

Have a look at and search in dedicated Mac forums such as maccast.com and macrumors.com. You'll get all the info there from people who post from personal experience.

The Mac warranty is essentially an insurance policy. If you need it, then you win. If you don't then you lose :)
(Don't forget that you have the manufacturer's warranty for the first year, and some credit cards offer exended warranties if you use them to purchase the camera).

FWIW, I purchased my 10D over three years ago. It's still going strong. If I had purchased an extended warranty, then I would have lost.

Actually, I NEVER purchase extended warranties.. I have all sorts of electronic gadgets that are getting old and running fine. Perhaps I'm just lucky, but that puts me way ahead in the game :)
