I ecently saw an article in pop photo magaine that said they are coming out with then for canon and nikok. . . anybody demoed on yet.

Do you mean a split focusing screen?
These are similar to those seen in cameras 20 years ago, where the image in the central focusing area only lines up (top to bottom of the central circle) when the lens is focused. Thus it is very obvious when you have a vertical line when best focus is achieved.

For the 1D series Canon already sells these inexpensively EcB. I use the Beattie intescreen which also adds brightness and gridlines.

For the crop cameras, which are not designed for user replacable focusing screens it is more difficult to change the focusing screen
