Here's a shot of some neighbor kids as a sort-of formal portrait. Comments welcome.

I agree - the right part of the face of the sister at the back is a little dark and it's hard to see her eye. Other than that - great shot, love the colors.

I love the colors also. The pose is great. Looks like a classic. I would love to be able to take shots like this in the future.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am not sure what to do with that dark eye. To properly light it, it would require another light...and that would ruin my rembrandt-style lighting, especially on the front lower girl. Maybe I could have just moved the softbox around a little closer to the camera...but that might have the same effect, flatter lighting. I guess I'll just have to experiment some more.

Greetings,
Looking at the highlight and shadow, I assume that is a single light setup for the subject. For my taste, I prefer a more frontal light setup for more than a single person portrait shot. In your photo, the girl standing has her right side filled with shadow while the girl sitting has most of her face of even exposure. A more frontal light up will reduce this effect. As for posing, I will make the other sqaut lower to be on same height and have both her hands visible. I think that will make it a more intimate pose. Thats my taste anyway. Enjoy...

5DII and a few L lenses.

I like the color scheme and the color balance is ok. What I don't like: #1 It's cropped a bit too close to the top of their heads. #2 The girl on the right is lit with broad lighting and that is not done well because of lack of light on the short side. The sister on the image left has a nice short lighting and looks good.

If you had turned the younger sister to face the same way you would have had a nice short lighting on both. Or, you could have used a different type of lighting pattern. Nice try ... hope to see improved images soon.
