The microfiber cloth will hold little bits of stuff, so probably better off to just make sure to have a couple packs of lens tissue around.

You can breath on the mirror or use a slight amount of lens cleaning fluid on the tissue to help the proccess. Don't worry about damaging it- that would only happen if you press really hard or rub it with a dirty tissue. That would almost be as bad as the nikon user who cleaned his sensor with toilet paper. Longer the lens is off more opportunity for dust to gather inside the camera and every time you click that shutter more dust is attracted to the staticly charged sensor (glass).
