Just wipe it gently (gently!) with a new clean tissue.
You can breath on the mirror or use a slight amount of lens cleaning fluid on the tissue to help the proccess.

Don't worry about damaging it- that would only happen if you press really hard or rub it with a dirty tissue.

don't clean with tissues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tissues contain lint, as its made from wood, which scratches lenses. Ues a microfibre cloth instead.

I'm sure he meant lens tissue... Not nose tissue. The microfiber cloth will hold little bits of stuff, so probably better off to just make sure to have a couple packs of lens tissue around.

even so, we should make everything clear when giving advice. We don't want to assume anything.

That would almost be as bad as the nikon user who cleaned his sensor with toilet paper. True story believe it or not.

They probablly tell the same stories about Canon users over at the Nikonians forum (external link)... after all, idiocy isn't brand loyal. ;)

You learn from your mistakes, It would only take you a second to put the lens back on.

I hope next time you don't hear, mommy look this will bounce.

There can't be a phone call important enough to leave the lens off a camera w/ a child around, better yet w/ dust afloat. Longer the lens is off more opportunity for dust to gather inside the camera and every time you click that shutter more dust is attracted to the staticly charged sensor (glass).
