Very cool, Dimitri. The large foreground stone looks like a deformed turtle head.

Good one, Dimitri. It reminds me of a lot of sandstone formations in the American southwest, which you would surely love to photograph.

Well done, very unusual formations What colour is the sandstone in daylight?

Joe

Near the same as you see it here,a dark red kind of.

What a find Dimitri and so well captured. This is a rock colour and formation those Guys across the pond find in the Grand Canyon but you found some in Scotland
Nice work Dimitri. ( by the way Dimitri if you've still got that stofen for sale I'll stick a tenner in the post )
Kind regards Alan.

Thanks for the kind words Alan.
Unfortunately someone has already paid for that stofen buddy, sorry.

WoW! like WoW is that the colour or is that PS?

Thats definately a freaky rock formation!....well done as usual dimitri.

Blame the weather buddy.

Very interesting Dimitri. Looks like molten rock but I guess not. The colors are superb for sandstone. Makes for an outstanding FG. Great capture, thanks for posting.

No,just compacted sand i think,badly weathered.

Definetly very alienish Dimitri, i haven't seen anything like this before. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for looking Daman.

Nice foreground interest Dimitri, and the blueish hints in the stone give a good link to the background blue tones.

Well spotted John.;)

AdamJL wrote in post #2290568 (external link)
The first thing my eyes went to was the miscellaneous "stuff" in the bottom left hand corner.
Also, the background looks a bit out of focus? Probably jpeg compression.

Good shot though D, and as John mentioned, I really like the blue tone in the rock matching that (stunning) sky.

Too much focus consentration on the stone,it had to be very detailed to show all its beauty,in which case,i didn`t think that the bg would matter that much but just adding a touch of colour.
Thank you for the honest comments Adam.

That big rock looks just like the Orc commander of the assault on Minas Tirith! (Guess who was watching 'Return of the King' last night? )

Fro the 1st words of yours Mike,i started wondering if you had any malts last night, but then i read about the film story.:lol:

That light blue sky rocks Dimitri and so does that streaky formations of the rock, very cool, well done another good cracking shot.

Cheers Tony.

Well, you don't see that everyday, do you? :D Very unique stones with a great range of colors. I love the sky in this shot and, of course, the composition is spot-on.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you were a "dyed in the wool" camera in the landscape position photographer. What's up with all of these portrait oriented photographs lately? ;) :D

Mike it looks more like the Dead Marshes to me and a Nazgul or Gollum might pop out from anywhere (Guess who gone through all the parts and even the book 10 times) ;);)...

Jokes apart, Dimitri - it is a great capture...and as I have mentioned earlier too, not only u have a great eye but u've got the talent to bring dead things to life and make them speak for themselves.

Everyone has got to learn a ton from you and I am the first one in the queue...:D

Moreover, I saw ur gallery and the link that u have provided for the PS plugins is awesome...All that stuff helps so much...Thanks a lot....

Cheers....

I`m glad they are being of help.
When i first started and trying to get some info , it was a nightmare , thats the reason i put all this info in my web site , so others don`t have to go through the same as me.
Thank you very much for all the nice words.

And still am Robert, and still am my friend.
But....i was trying to get one shot in landscape orientation one day and there was not enough material around to fill the frame,(although i really wanted to get the shot),which made me deside to go for portrait.
Now,as you said i`m a landscape man,but when i saw the portrait framing,i realised that there was alot of potencial there for some certain shots.
Since then,if i don`t have enough view to fill in the frame the way i want it,i just turn the camera around.
Try it,some times it works much much better.;)

I'll go with the flow on this (well almost :) ;) ), a cracking image, but I would perhaps turn down the saturation in the sky just a touch.
The stones need to dominate, at the moment there is just too much competition from the sky.

Dimitri,

a stunning picture, the colors of the sandstone are great. Is part of this formation under water at high tides? I agree with Lesmac about the sky but also think the sandstone colors could be brought out a bit. This was done with just the L channel in LAB space. The sky was darkened aand the ss brightened. There is a wealth of color in there. Excellent.

Very nice Dimitri

I'd say mother nature is practising her graffitti when she coloured those rocks :)
