Hey all... Started getting back to editing some old images and thought Id share them. C&C welcome. My article titled "Lightning Photography: How to Capture Striking Nature Photographs" is almost complete and awaiting March to resubmit it for publication.

The first image was blown out too much due to an over-powering strike that was 5 times any bolt Id seen that close. My guess is it struck 2 blocks away being the house is across the street about 75 yds., (Shot wide open at 28mm and no crop).

Second Image was cropped vertically from a landscape shot.

Hope you enjoy. Counting the days til the Spring Thunder Storms...

Thanks, Theres alot more on my web site at http://www.pasphotography.com/portfolio/lightning.html (external link) (about 43 photos currently).

Once I finish my article Ill post MOST of my techniques. Gotta keep some goodies for myself. Basically start at ISO 100, f11, and shutter speed at 20 sec. and set focus to manual at infinity. Adjust your shutter speed if there is more than one strike per 20 sec., or if the storm is far away lower ISO to 200.

Don't know if I can wait that long.....hehe. :)

I've been trying for some time to get acceptable shots of lightning, but with no success as of yet. Mind you, thanks to this forum and other sorces, I've improved alot since I last tried (few years ago). If you know of any sites (or personal experience), could you please share them?......With all of us reading here of coarse. :)

Oh ya, love the pictures. The first one must have been a thrill and a half when it struck.....whish I had been there. Lightning storms give me a tremendus rush......kinda like a kid in a candy store.....hehe. Hope to see more!

Lightning storms are something we never get in Florida. In a photographic sense, I wish we would! I'd love to try it.

Great shots you have there.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Thanks everyone. Once you get the Lightning Bug you cant stop. Its very addicting with the power and force giving you that adrenalin rush. Its kind of what I call extreme photography because at times it can get pretty intense if you get to close or right under the action.
