30D light meter

I posted this question but i think it was deleted or something.
Anyways, i was taking some pics outdoors with my 30d and my 70-200mm F/4L. Pressed the shutter to take a meter reading while peeking at the viewfinder - was off about half or so stop, so took my eyes off the viewfinder (while still pressing the shutter) and i noticed that the reading on the viewfinder and LCD are NOT synced. Is this normal or is there something with the camera (or lens)? BTW, i was using the lens hood.

You've probably turned the camera when moving the eye from the viewfinder to LCD. Any slightest change in brightness of the scene will change the exposure mark position (while in M mode). Pushing the shutter button halway down doesn't lock exposure (only in Evaluative metering).
