I guess that the one thing that I noticed about this flash is that the head does not appear to rotate. Rotating the head can help when I'm trying to bounce the light off of a wall, and that kind of thing. Having said that I used Vivitar 283's for decades, and they certainly had no head rotation feature and I seemed to get by. I've also had a number of 45 series Metz flashes and they were always dependable, so an E-TTL flash at this price is probably worth the gamble/investment.

The Metz guide number is 36 (m) compared to the Canon 430EX having guide number 43. So the Metz is less powerful by about 1/2EV. Example, shooting distance of 9m is f/4 with the Metz, whereas the Canon would let you use same lens aperture and there would be sufficient light to 10.75m. Metz is a very reliable product trusted by tens of thousands of pros, so you need not worry about purchasing cheap junk.
