This is my first outing with the Nikon AIS 50mm 1.4 Nikkor lens. Wide open it has a very pleasing softness which is good for portraits. Bokeh seems a bit distracting, but most all the out of focus areas have been cropped out of this shot.

My new Nikkor 50mm came with a nice black F2sb as seen here in the pictures of cameras thread:
https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=1961421&postcount=95

Shot Raw and processed via Canon's DPP. Additional work done in Adobe Photoshop CS2.

A major advantage of the EOS camera system is a relativly thin body capable of adapting lenses from other thicker bodied systems. (in the case of the EOS this is most others...) Inexpensive adapters are available to mount these lenses. There is a near complete loss of automation with these lenses but AV & M modes remain available. I have quite a few Nikon - Nikkor lenses and Pentax - Takumar lenses that see regular use on my EOS.

That's a very nice shot, love the softened look to it. Did the converters allow you to keep AF, or was that some nifty MF work? :D

You bet!

I shoot many different brands on my Canon.

Why?

Mainly because the Canon is my only digital camera and I admit to rarely shooting film anymore. If I had a digital camera for each of my lens brands perhaps I would not bother shooting them on the Canon.

One note with the Nikon lenses though... Even though the Nikon lens mount has remained the same since the first Nikon F SLR, allowing for the old lenses to be used on the latest cameras, the new Nikon autofocus cameras will not be able to use the cameras lightmeter with these lenses attached. With the Nikon adaptor and my EOS I can meter properly and shoot in either M or AV mode. So truth be told the EOS is a better digital platform for these older Nikon lenses than a Nikon camera.

Canon makes fine lenses, I own some of the best, and use them most often. If you check out my photo blog (http://pawproject.blogspot.com/ (external link)) you will see nearly all of my images are made with Canon lenses.

However...

Canon lenses have their own character, as do Nikon, Pentax, etc... In some cases there is not much difference between the brands, in other cases one lens will stand out, with a special character that sets it appart. The best example I can give is the Pentax - Takumar 50mm 1.4. Do a search here on POTN or google on this lens and you will find a wealth of information.

The Takumar 50mm 1.4 sells for $20-60 and the adapter for EOS cameras $10-20. For that price you can afford to check it out for yourself.

Naw, the adapter is just a thin piece of metal that has a nikon lensmount on one side and a EOS body mount on the other. It is just thick enough to make up the size difference between the Nikon and EOS (which is a couple of cm shorter from mount to sensor)

The lens is from 1976 and is only "New" because I just got it...

The little 50mm never had AF but if it did it wouldnt work adapted to the EOS.

Little Sabrina had run past 5 or 6 times already and I had simply pre-focused on a spot on the path and waited. It took 2 tries to get it right.

This lens certinaly has some unique characteristics wide open. The highlights are glowing! Time will tell if these are negative or positive characteristics. I hope to use this lens a little more this week. As well as my other Nikon 50's a 50mm 2.0 and an E-series 1.8.
