Leaves

I have seen pictures on the web of leaves in the autumn and I was wondering how you go about setting a shot like that up.

Like this one below from another Deviantartist.

I gave it a go a while ago and it wasnt a very interesting image. Is there any ways to spice up these kind of images?

Make sure that there's a bunch of different colours in it, make it colourful if possible. Arrange the leaves a bit too, dont leave them the way they appear. It's a tricky to get decent looking ones.

That photo also has nice lines running through it - the foreground narrows and disappears off into the distance. Strong colours, too...
