Has anyone tried this one? I seem to have problems sometimes with the 1.8 50 and 85mm lenses. Maybe f/2 won't be as tight but is 100mm too much for gym sports like basketball and volleyball? NOt sure if anyone ahs tried this?
Maybe liza

I find it's a nicer lens than the 85mm, it's not quite so keen to purple fringe around areas of extreme contrast and it's AF is just as fast and accurate as the 85mm. (I have both, BTW). As to focal length, I couldn't say. Only you can judge how far you're going to be from your subject. Glenn

I was standing right on the sideline though, so if you are shooting from the stands, then I guess it would be perfect.

If it's a crop then the 100mm will effectively be 160mm. Depending on where you will be (floor or stands) it might be a bit long, although you would be able to isolate the action. On FF I'd think it would be ok. Having one lens is always a compromise, however. When Canon came out with the 50 f1.0 years ago, they posted a spread using it at a basketball game. Shooter was right on the line behind the backboard, though. Obviously this was FF film as well. Film: Leica M-4, Elan 7E, Rolleiflex 2.8f, Pentax 645 -- Digital: Canon Pro-1, EOS 5D Mk III

kidpower Senior Member 513 posts Likes: 1 Joined Apr 2005 More info | It's excellent for indoor sports of any kind. I use it and the 85 1.8 on my XT. For basketball, I move around a lot (if I can) and the 100 F2.0 is an outstanding performer.

Nov 22, 2006 18:41 | #8 I have access to be on the sidelines of highschool and college games and below like grades 1-8. I use a Canon 10D and 30D with the 50 1.8. I wanted to get a 2nd lens for my 2nd camera to ahve both.. I'm just not sure of the 200 being to tight for those indoor sports when i'm on the sidlines. I like tight photos but not too tight. Anyone have any samples with their lenses? Thanks for all the help guys this is why i love this fourm. Canon Equipment
