I've been asked a few times for the list of books i'd recommend, so here they all are in one place. They're about weddings, photoshop, and photography in general. I'll update this occasionally as I find new books that I think are useful. NB: I get credit from Amazon if anyone clicks these links then buys a book, which I will donate to POTN.

Wedding Specific

The Best of Wedding Photojournalism (external link). Excellent book with a viewpoint photographers should know about.

The Art of Wedding Photography: Professional Techniques with Style (external link). Not bad, not my favorite wedding book. A bit outdated with respect to technology.

Scott Smiths' Wedding Book (external link). An interesting book with an interesting viewpoint from a fantastic photographer.

Group Portrait Photography Handbook (external link). Very handy for people new to posing groups, or people who want to make more interesting groups. It won't tell you how to take group photos like Toogy, but it will help.

Al Jacobs Wedding Book (external link). (Free PDF)

Posing for Portrait Photography: A Head-to-Toe Guide (external link). Brilliant book, best i've seen on posing principles. Not strictly about weddings but very very useful.

Digital Wedding Photography, by Paul Gero (external link). A good introduction and starter book.

Technical Books

Scott Kelby Photoshop CS4 for Digital Photographers (external link). An update to an excellent book

Photoshop Elements 6 for Digital Photographers (external link) - Scott Kelby.

Real World Raw CS5 (external link). Invaluable for anyone who works with RAW, no matter what software they use.

Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3 (external link). A no doubt good update for the brilliant CS2 version i've read. Invaluable - workflow is one of the keys to making a wedding photography business work. This book helps with that. So does this thread.

Real World Color Management, Second Edition (external link). Invaluable information for anyone who wants to use anything other than sRgb. It's quite technical, but color mangaement's a technical subject.

Amazon.com: Color Management for Photographers: Hands on Techniques for Photoshop Users (external link). This was recommended to me, i've not read it.

Light - Science and Magic : An Introduction to Photographic Lighting (external link). A briliant but technical book about photographing difficult things like glass, metals, and artwork.

Misc

The DAM Book (external link). Digital Asset Management for photographers. See also The DAM Book Website (external link).

Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photographers (external link). Pretty handy.

Understanding Exposure (external link). A highly recommended book for anyone who needs to understand the basics.

Studio Lighting Guide (external link) by Scott Smith. Best studio lighting book i've found for the beginner.

if you were to buy a bunch of these books from Amazon and they were USED do you get all your books in one hit? or do you get each individual USED book for each seller?

I think they come from individual sellers, but you should check out their help site. I always to buy new, figure it's easier.

Thanks, Tim. I have a few of those based on your recommendation already. I think Understanding Exposure and the RAW for CS2 are great. I'd suggest to anyone to go and look them over in a book store first, then buy them on Amazon.

Al Jacobs Wedding Book (external link). (Free PDF)

Tim, thanks for listening the books, I know this free PDF, it's great and has a lot of humor beside good information. Things to photograph and not

Examples from page 24 ff:
- Collective shot of Bridesmaids, use super wide lens if all of them are size 18 or better
- Shots of limo at wrong door, send limo to right door
- Rear axle ripping out of the car as the fireplug goes off and the angry Priest wanting to know who did this to his car

After that the real needed shots are listed.

Regarding Al Jacobs Wedding Book (free FDF), it mentions in the intro that this is part 1 of 4. The date is 2005, so I wondered if any of the successive parts have been written yet that you are aware of?
