Iv'e decided that my plung into the dslr world is going to be with a new xti. After doing hours upon hours of surfing and reading here, for me it seems as the best choice. Two key features that have sold me are the larger screen, sensor cleaning feature.

I plan to purchase just after the holidays, (watching prices daily), hoping this is going to be the best time to buy. I'm going to purchase just a body. I know the kit lense is a decent start, but I'm leaning towards a used 17-85. Once I have the body, and if I went with the kit lense, knowing me, I'll want to upgrade glass soon. This lense (to me) seems like it will give me more flexability, and later in the spring pick up a used 70-300 for outdoor sporting events ect...............

Well, that's my game plan, any other thoughts??

Mark

I'd say it's good. As an XT owner on a budget (previously), my preferred allaround combo was a 10-22 ultrawide, 17-85 IS, and 70-300 IS. Be careful not to mix up and get the more affordable and very much poorer image quality 75-300 IS by mistake. The 70-300 IS is superb, not just because of IS, but because that model received a vast upgrade in image quality.

You may also see a 70-300 DO IS, whether or not it's worth the extra money will be largely up to you to decide.

I plan to buy my lenses here. I'm all over ebay (power seller,ect...) but know that a lense advertised here is the one I'm going to receive. I use to shoot alot of film with my ae1 (still have it) . Haven't touch it in a long time. Been shooting alot with a s2is, and think it's a great camera, but get very frustrated with it's (and most) p/s limitations.

I know prices are pretty good now, and it could go either way after the holidays, but I just dropped some coin on another hobby of mine and not that I can't swing it now, it just makes more sense to wait. I'm sure I'll have my first lense, memory cards, and maybe an extra battery before I get my xti, but I don't want to rush into anything. If I do it in stages, I can have a nice set up. I have been bitten by the bug, but have to control my scratching:lol:

Happy Thanksgiving to all !!
