Hey there,

Ive had the Powershot A430 for a few weeks now and i really like how it handles and what my options are.

I was also looking into some acessoires though.
And i have some questions regarding those...

Im thinking of buying a standard for the camera, though i am wondering if i need to find a standard that is specifically suited for the A430 or if there are several standards suiting pretty much all cameras.

Also regarding taking photo's with a standard...
I know some digicams come with a remote control to take the pictures.
I was wondering if the A430 also had this option?
If not that would mean i will still have to press the button on the cam which could still make my picture fuzzy on non-solid ground.

Regarding the pictures though...
(Yeah im an annoyance :P).
Is there an option where i can set the time that is used to close the lens when taking a picture?
I often notice the tiniest shiver will cause a blurry picture and this seems to be due to the fact that the cam takes a pretty long time to take a picture.
(Dunno if im right there).

Thanks for any info. :)

I'll assume by a standard you mean a tripod (three legs) or other support for the camera that doesn't need to be held up by the photographer.

need to find a standard that is specifically suited for the A430 or if there are several standards suiting pretty much all cameras.

Tripods are standardized, with a specific size for the screw that goes into the camera. Nothing special is needed.

Check your Canon manual, but my A540 has no remote control or cable release connector. Read about the self timer below.

You are talking about a self timer, which delays the release of the shutter. That's certainly on the A530 and A540, and Steve's Digicams says it's on your camera as well.

Thanks for any info.

You're welcome!

Thanks for all the info. :)

Thanks for the tip with the selftimer, that way i wont need a remote or anything.

Also what i meant was if it was possible to control the delay of the shutter closeing time.

As has already been said, tripods are pretty standard; there's a standard thread used by most cameras. For a lightweight compact, there's plenty of options, which don't need to be that expensive. This (click) (external link) looks like a really nice option for a compact camera.

Your blurry pictures are a consequence of slow shutter speeds - the shutter is open for a long time, which means that both movement of the subject (motion blur) and movement of the camera (camera shake) will blur the image. The camera will only use slow shutter speeds when it has to, which is when there's not much light.

The best thing to do is to get more light on the scene - which may mean using the flash. A tripod will help for camera shake, but not for subject motion.

David

Wow, thanks for the tip with the lighting. :)

I never knew these digicams used a combination of light measuring and shutter speeds together. (I only knew about the light measurement).

Does this mean that when i increase the light sensitivity of the camera it will get me a lower shutter speed though?

Increasing the ISO will let you use a faster shutter speed.
