Wow this thread is dead. Anyway thought I'd revive it with a non-macro shot with the 60.

I had an opportunity to use one recently, what a very nice lens:

I've always loved this lens, but the last few shots, I have been displeased with the bokeh. It seems very edgy.

At what aperture were these taken? As aperture will affect the bokeh and thus depth of field.

Both were shot at f/4. I am happy with the amount of blur and the depth of field, but the blur (in at least these 2 pictures) is edgy and ugly not at all creamy and smooth. It might just be the compositions of the backgrounds, but, at least for these 2 shots, I was not happy with the look of the blur.

The right side of the bottom picture looks nice, but the left...

I still love the lens: razor sharp, virtually no distortion, small, light,

I see what you are getting at and perhaps it is just a one off thing due to the particular composition etc. One thing I have found is that some memory cards can really screw up the saved images. I doubt that this is the case here though as the sharp parts are really sharp :)
Yes.. it is a very good lens!!! :)

I think that the bokeh can be very pleasing. I think that it must be composition dependent to a certain degree.

This was with the 60mm - posted a year ago in this thread but just put here for the bokeh. Maybe not perfect, but then it's a pretty inexpensive lens, and for what it does best, it's really good.

Would anyone still recommend this lens after using the 100mm f/2.8 (non-is)?

That's a beautiful shot :) And the bokeh looks pretty good to me :) I have a 100mm F2 macro lens, but it is the 60 I take away with me for two reasons:
1. It is small and light
2. I can get better shots more easily with it than with the flash L one! :)

I agree.. I think I just had a sequence of shots that happened to have difficult backgrounds that didn't blur nicely.
I was quite pleased with the look of the last shot that I posted above on this page.

Yes!!!!!!! It really is a fantastic lens for APC cameras. I have a borrowed 2.8 non IS 100mm and I have the L version of the 100mm macro lens and I still prefer this lens for ease of use, quality of pic and weight.

I agree with you. The 60mm f2.8 macro is one of Canon's best EF-S lenses, hands down.

I was thinking of selling my 100mm f2.8 L IS , but decided to wait and see if I go for the 6D this fall. If I do that, then I'll need to keep the 100mm, but I'll have to sell my 60D, 60mm f2.8, 17-55 f2.8, and 10-22 to pay for the 6D.
