I recently got a canon 10D body only as a backup. Now i have the 18-55mm lens that fits all my cameras except the 10D. Does anyone know what lens came with this camera? Or what lens fits it? I'd like a 18-55 for the 10D but i'm not even sure if they make it. If anyone knows please let me know.

Another question...anyone have the 10D manual for sale?

Thanks,
-Joey

The 10D didn't have a kit lens when it came out and as you have found the Canon 18-55mm doesn't fit.
One way round it is to modify your Canon 18-55mm to fit the 10D - see here:

I don't think you need to do the contour gauging bit, I didn't anyway, just a bit of judicious measuring. It does work and on a 10D the results are fine, the lens isn't ruined for EF-S bodies either, but WILL NOT fit the larger sensored bodies such as the 5D or 1 Series.

But if you do undertake the mod. then any problems can't be my responsibility!

All of the EF series (but NOT the EF-S) series lenses will work just fine on the 10D.

I would NOT suggest modifying EF-S lenses for the 10D, though, because some of them project far enough into the mirror box that it is possible (though not nearly as likely as on the 5D, for example) that at certain zoom settings the camera's mirror could contact the rear element of the lens.

Some EF-S lenses may work fine on the 10D when modified, but is it really worth the risk? I think not.

Just get a third party crop lens instead if you really want digital only glass. They work fine because they don't have the rear protrusion as on the EF-S line. The kit lens isn't something spectacular enough to worry about compatibility anyway, IMHO.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

When my friend bought his 10D back in the day he got it in a kit bundle type thing.

jsanz11,
Here is a link where you can get the Canon 10D manual in PDF format (external link)

For the EF-s 18-55 lens I agree with Skip, is it really worth the risk? ???

You could purchase a Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 for 10D if need be, it's barely $100. Cheap enough.

I think the inferred kit lens for the D30/60 & 10D was the 24-85mm USM f/3.5-4.5 II lens.
