Try the grip before you buy. It's pretty big and not as rounded/comfortable to hold as I would have liked. It also depends on the size of your hands. My wife can't get her hand round it, I can (just!).

Tommy....I don't have the 5D, but I do have a 1Ds....and I have both the 24-70 and the 24-105....two different lenses...for two different purposes. The 24-70 is great for those low light situations and when you want that special bokeh...the 24-105 is the sweetest little walk around lens on FF. The only way I wouldn't own both was if they were to introduce a new 24-105 f/2.8 IS...that would rock....but I suspect it would also weigh a ton.

Tommy, is there any way one of us (meaning me) could help you out by taking advantage of Dell's deal and mailing it to you? I don't know how international mail works.

Thanks for the offer :D . Unfortunately the danish customs check 99% of all packages so i would be hit with import duty and tax (marking a box with gift won't work ;) ). And if it got through I would run a risk every time I take it out of Denmark and back again if customs ask to see a receipt. Then i risk getting to pay duty and a huge fine.

here that is not available, so i will try to find someone in USA to buy me and send it to me, no more just one tax which is not that much, but no risks or so, and with UPS service i can get my delivery so easy.

i don't know, but Dell has a deal on the 5d for ~1700 after rebate at the moment.

You're dreaming. I searched Dell up and down and the camera is a lot more than that. Send me a link to that price and I'll buy it right now. Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.

I already have the 24-70 f/2.8 so am wondering if it would be worth it to get the kit that includes the 24-105 f/4 IS or if I should save that money and get a grip+580ex instead.

wouldnt an extra battery or 2 be cheaper and lighter to carry than the grip? still get the extra juice, without the expense or weight...

That's the rationale I applied when I first outfitted my camera. I know a lot of people really like to equip the camera with a grip, but I find it very easy to orient it either in portrait or landscape position without it. Plus every extra ounce of weight that's added just gets magnified over a long event shoot. And that gets into the fatigue factor and "steady shots." Just MHO. ;)

If I may ask, where did you see the 5D for $1700 after rebate? When I checked a couple of minutes ago, the selling price of the 5D at Dell was $3299.95 - $494.99 = $2804.96. Minus $300 rebate from Canon is $2504.96. And that's not nearly as low as $1700.

Thanks.

That was one of those weird specials that existed for a only few hours or a day or two, just because it was the middle of the week during a full moon in an off election year.....

Seriously, it seemed to come and go VERY fast in the Small Business Electronics section. You had to proceed all the way to CHECKOUT in order to see the full pricing.

You first got 15% off as the main special. Then there was another 15% because you got it in the electronics area. This gets it down to $2384.22 before tax. Get another rebate item and this doubles the 5D rebate to $600 which brings the new total to $1784.22 before tax.

I agree - this was one of those quicky flash-in-the-pan deals that you missed if you sneezed. Check my earlier posts to see the aggravation I went through to get it. And there was one item I did NOT verify prior to purchase - shame on me. In my adrenaline pumped excitement I ASSUMED this has the full USA warranty...hopefully that's correct.

I am going to buy more batteries. I think I will skip the grip because of the total size of 5D + grip.

Hehe I know. The lighting in my room is not the best and I just wanted to try a quick test shot. Hopefully it won't rain today even though it has been forecasted.
