A good thing Mark. I thought it was obvious but no one had mentioned it until you did.

Here the school acts as the "parent on the scene" . there is a Latin term like Parentis in loci or some such and they take their role very seriously (too seriously sometimes) but it can be useful in bringing pressure on their charges.

ACDC, as long as you are truly the copyright owner of the image and it is not a prohibited image you should have nothing to fear. Do not be afraid to use the system to your benefit.

If it's been hyperlinked from your original location then you could replace it with a photo of a pair of bare buttocks. That tends to work.

I did that with a few pictures that were hyperlinked from my site. I replaced them with the goatse image. If you feel brave, search for it on google images.

that's what I thought. The Internet hasn't got any emotion attached so I had taken it two ways. :)

anyway, company's like myspace, youtube are respectful of copyright stuff. Even if you where not a student they will still take this serious. Just send them an e-mail and see what happens.

I sent Myspace an email and sent the thief an email (#2), requesting in 24 hour removal. Shawl be interesting. The image isn't bad. I can't change it and put a goat or duck in becasue he directly right clicked on the photo.
This is the photo, exact copy......It's he\ard to tell it's copyrighted with the yellow lettering though ;).

I really don't see it as a big deal... As far as I'm concerned, copyright law aside, if you put anything on the internet its there for the taking. it just depends how easy you want it to be for someone to take it. you've got a pretty big copyright logo, he left it on, if anything thats a good advert for others to come take a look at your sports photos as he's obviously in with the crowd... the only thing i'd do differently is stick a website address on.

the suspect is a thief and you need to keep hammering that issue.

The suspect is not a thief. The person involved has committed copyright infringement, not theft.

From a moral sense some people may see no difference, but it's important that we understand the critical difference in legal terms. This difference becomes painfully clear when you are the one getting screwed. If he actually stole something, he could be arrested, tried and sentenced. But such is not the case with copyright infringement.

Since copyright infringement is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, the person infringed upon is left with deciding whether or not it's worth the time and money to pursue it. And when we decide to pursue it, ultimately we need to convince a court that we have suffered in a monetary way from the infringement.

When we post images on the internet, we need to understand that copyright infringement is a very real possibility. I have a lot of images on my website of teenagers in theatre productions. Since myspace is popular with that age group, I have no doubt that some of these images are plastered around. And about all I can realistically hope for is that they don't crop my copyright statement off the bottom of the image, so people at least know where it came from.

"Copy and paste" is impossible to stop. If you don't want it to happen, don't post the images.

Myspace doesn't work like that. You upload the images to myspace servers, you don't hotlink.

The real core of the problem is that these people have not been taught anything by their parents and therefore have been left to develop their own set of ethics.

What do you suppose such a letter would say? And how much do you think it will cost you do get that done? What do you have to gain by taking such action?

Ok, so this person did a naughty thing. Maybe let him know it was naughty. Then let it go. There are times when we all need to decide which battles are worth fighting. And in this case, you have nothing to gain by winning.
