Variations of these have been posted before. There have been some very constuctive and helpful comments made that I really do appreciate. It is easy to get so focussed on one aspect of a picture that other details get overlooked. For these two, the post processing was done using the technique from Dan Margulis, "Photoshop LAB Color, The Canyon Conundrum ....".

Using LAB color space offers some interesting options for color and tone adjustments that I find very appealing. The colors end up being closer to what I prefer based on my impressions at the time the images were collected and what I would like the final picture to be.

These are closer to what I have envisioned, but I'm still interested in the C&C from the sharp eyed critics.

Absolutely amazing landscape and great captures.

However, I find them a touch on the bright side. I also find my eyes wandering as there is no focal point. Focusing on a few spires might have given more 'punch'. Just my humble opinion.:)

It's not how much kit you have, it's what you do with it that counts.......but at least L glass LOOKS good !!:D

You have posted previous versions of both these shots. Could you supply the link so we can compare them?

The second is perfect for me and (I think) an improvement over the last version. In the first I have to agree that the foreground yellow rock seems rather bright - but maybe that's how it was? ... and how you want it to be? :)

mws3, thanks, I feel fortunate to be able to visit some of these unique spots. Taking pictues is frosting on the cake.

ruairidh, thanks for your critique. My original intent, and still is a main objective with these pictures, was to capture the immense nature of the place. So on one hand, your observation is a compliment to me that I did achieve that. On the other, and it is something I want to purse in the future, getting more detail on some of the individual features is planned. These were taken with an 85mm lens on a 5D, the first was a single row of 4 and the second 2 row of 5. I need a slightly longer lens, I'm deciding on either a 135mm of a 200mm.

Mike, old age stikes again. I only posted the second picture previously, https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238268 . The crop is a little different from the previous post. I agree about the bright rock in the first, it is distracting. When I look at the original image blown up, I don't find it that way. I did the sharpening on the full size image and the brighter regions didn't seem to compress well on the resize. I'm going to get some test prints made and see if it appears off for the actual prints.

Thanks,
Jeff

Not you  , me. I thought I had posted both but had only posted the second one. Not a big deal, but my bad.
