In fact, the light we see from the sun takes ~9 minutes to reach us.

I'm getting a bit freaked out wondering why I should be freaked out about this? ??? I mean, we're all on the same small rocky planet orbiting a single small yellow sun...

Yes, the light from the sun does, but the light from some of the stars left 20,000+ years ago. Many of the stars that we see in the sky have already been gone for some time.

Yes, but I was just pointing out the light time lag also occurs within our solar system. For stars outside the solar system, that time lag ranges from 4 years, to millions, to billions of years.

They also get the galaxy's two satellite galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, and an absolutely wonderful view of the central bulge of our galaxy. Yes I am jealous! :)

Why is that relevant to the story? They have stupid people everywhere, even in Sweden.

First, I don't really believe the story. Second, if it is true, then who's the bigger fool? The Americans or their attorney? Wait!!! Their attorney was probably American too!! That would certainly explain everything....stupidity all around.

The fact is, a suit like that would/could never be filed....not in an American court anyway.

Now, let's talk about the woman in Stockholm who washed her poodle and dried it in the microwave oven. That story's not true, either, but just as entertaining IMHO.

LOL, you have no sense of humor dear, why doesn't american likes that we pick on them, as they pick on us? ;)

But yeah, the story is probably an urban myth, even if it was a story in one of the larger newspapers in Norway (and that's where I read it a few years ago). The cruise they took was with something called Hurtigrutten, which goes along the whole coast of Norway, from the south to the north (which is way past the Arctic circle).

The poodle story is a classic, but here it's been told as being an american cooking her poor dog in the micro to dry it. I mean why should we do it, we don't even have microwave ovens, I thought you americans thought we lived in the middle ages. Espeically when I get asked (this *is* true) if we live in houses or huts since we live so far up north (I'm 170 km south of the arctic circle).

Reminds me about the story about the american couple who went on a midnight sun cruise in northern Norway and the cruise line was sued when the lady found out it was the same sun as the one she saw when she took a midnight sun cruise in Alaska.

DOH!!!!

No way! Some people are idiots!

Another classic poodle story is the one about the Swiss couple touring in Asia with their Poodle, Rosa. They supposedly went into a restaurant and asked the proprieter to give Rosa something to eat. Apparently there was some communication difficulty between the Swiss couple and the people in the restaurant, but finally, everyone seemed to be on the same page, and the water took Rosa back to the kitchen. Sometime later, he re-emerged with Rosa----cooked.

I actually read that story on the front page of the San Jose Mercury news back in 1969. It had the headline, "Roast Rosa." They later printed a retraction.

One last point, Petra. The 'A' in America (or American) should be capitalized. Even Bill Gates agrees with that (tried it in Microsoft Word.)

Actually, that's for those living near the south pole, as there's no penguins in the north pole, and also the reason polar bears doesn't eat penguins.... an upside world for sure!

But I do have a pet reindeer, his name is Blitzen.... :D

The reason there are no penguins left at the north pole is because the polar bears and reindeer ate them all.;)
