Session pricing?

I shot a car (55 Chevy Belair) on Wednesday at the Autorama in Houston, TX. My uncle wants to pay me for my time and prints. I know what I'll charge him for prints, but I do not know what to charge him for my time. I was there a total of two hours.

Can you guys gimme some ideas?

Uncle + 2 hours = $50. I wouldn't charge an uncle too much, if at all.

I'd trade him prints for drive time. That's one sweet Chevy. If possible I'd try to find a rental studio to really shoot the car.

He is a small business owner himself and understands my time is limited. I want to be fair and he is willing to pay full price for my time.

So how much are you charging him for prints...that's the question that needs to be answered first, probably

That's precisely what I'd charge him. After all, it's your uncle.

Quote him $125 per hour for shoot time and 75 for PP time. That is fair. I think it is cool that he wants to pay, too. I saw the work that you put into it and good mechs make about that much too.

But like the others have said maybe you can barter for other things too. If he knows other owners have him give out your cards that you made for him. The business that he could bring to you would be worth 100x what he may pay you. Good luck and nice images

print him up a normal invoice, then add 'family discount' to a line and subtract it to make a total of 50 or whatever and give him a 50% discount on prints.

I vote for drive time too. Grab your honey and take them out in a date while driving that sweet ride.

My brother/sister inlaw hired me to take family shots for their Christmas card. They just needed digital 4x6s to print themselves so I charged them a session fee (full price) and provided 20 images post processed and sized on CD at no additional charge. The post processing was a fair bit of work as she wanted colour and B&W to chose from.

You could charge full price for the print and session fee ($125/hr) and include the post processing as a discount.

It is so hard to charge family but it is a business. I do it for free for family but for friends I try to trade something. I just feel so weird taking money.

charge him the $50 + cost of prints. Then ask him if he has friends that also wants pictures done.

Nice looking car in crappy lighting. Give him cost on the print & forget the rest.

I agree, but as another person above me said...

Find a rental studio, and shoot some really high end picts for him, and have your uncle pick up the tab. Not only do you get some portfolio grade prints, he can get something really worth hanging onto.
