I call it Prima Donna disease...(Thanks Woolburr :-))

It's interesting really, when I'm out doing shots I get a lot of hello's from strangers, but when I pass other certain photographers also taking shots, they check out my gear and give me the look at disdain.

I notice it everywhere...that effing attitude.

What is with that?

I know what you mean - some people are like that :(
What I'd like to know is why people give me a P&S and ask me to take their photo - it's not like I know what I'm doing most of the time :)

Just curious about this whole Pre Madonna thing. Are you referring to those people born before she became a commercial success in 1983? Or perhaps those born before her in 1958...Surely you don't mean the real Madonna...after all she was born over 2000 years ago...don't think there are a whole lot of photographers from that era floating around.

Is there an outside chance you meant Prima Donna?

Thanks woolburr, I just spat my drink out LOL!

On Topic though, yes I have seen a few ego hyped 20 something men running around with their 'fancy' SLRs. I was at a National Park and there were these guys just bouncing and hopping from one rock to another and skipping down these narrow stair cases with their cameras hanging from their shoulders and I was just thinking how I'd hate to be them and accidently trip over or something.........

LOL no not much in my kit as compared to some other hot shots....I still don't get the attitude, the unfriendliness...

Yes I meant Prima Donna...:-) and I should have known that.

I still don't get the overall need for some photographers to be a total ****, there I think I used that term appropiatley :D

**why do some people need to be so unfriendly, it's freaking photography....we are supposed to be "artists"

Sorry...that is what happened to me on the original post.;) I don't know why any photographer wouldn't just smile and wave when they meet another. I always try to do that. The only difficult part is dealing with people with those tiny P&S cameras....that figure since you have an SLR...you must know exactly how their camera works too.

Well come down here and shoot...I'll wave at you...talk to you...even take your picture with your point and shoot...if you just show me the controls.;) I like to talk...and your choice of gear is just that...your choice..I don't have a problem with what anyone uses. I might even tell you where you can find an interesting waterfall or a great sunset!

Leave the video camera at home...that is not my thing...

I've noticed the total opposite with the P&S requests, I always guessed that everyone didnt want to disturb me when i'm out and about shooting. I was always P&S man before I started in photography... Night and day difference.

As for other photographers - they either think we're GWC (guy with camera) or they are themselves and we're 'judging' them. Not like GWC is bad - as long as they're not trying to pass themselves off as something they're not. Everyone needs to start somewhere, and some GWC's just happen to have the funds to get something nice for their occasional shooting pleasure.

fear of competition would be my guess. Of course, maybe it's arrogance on my part, but when someone snubs me or makes an over-dramatic attempt to look down their nose at me, I take it that they're intimidated by me. I think most people can pick up that I am the last person in the world to be intimidated by in any manner, so I feel a little sorry for snobs.

anyway, and more importantly, I really wish you'd change it back to Pre Madonna! that is awesome!
