No need to be snotty to other shooters. Hell, I'll even talk to Noink users. :)

I know they all aren't like that, but I know what you mean!

I was in Gettysburg and my Yashica was around my neck. A guy walked by with the same model and I was like, "HEY! Nice camera!!" All I got was a, "hmm"

He had the 60mm 2.8, maybe he was jealous of my Yashinon 400 mm 5.6. :D

I'm not a prick when I'm out shooting, but if I'm out shooting with a specific goal in mind or I'm on the clock, I'm most likely not going to be very receptive to someone wanting to talk to me. On the other hand, if I'm just tooling along and I run into a photog I'll shoot the breeze for a bit unless I can tell they are completely clueless, then I'll just leave. But I do the same thing non photographers as well, so it's not like I'm being an ass to just photogs.

Lady down street have small studio and she see my with new lens with shade and she just ask to see my camera and lens. She have Rebel with 18-55mm lens and maybe some else lens. She happy for me.

Other day, I look into window huge new bridal photo studio and I have camera. Nobody say anything but look at camera and smile.

I run in to other "Pro" shooters quite often. Some are jerks, others so-so, and even others who are a pleasure to chat with (kinda like here).

What I can't stand is the new SLR owner who doesn't have a clue as to what to do with it. So they stalk you trying to get free camera lessons. Some are worse than a stray dog humping your leg, you just can't get rid of them short of being rude.

At best a chance to chat and learn, at worst, like peeing into the wind.

I'm a little on the shy side so a nod of the head and a smile is all you might get out of me. But I have respect for anyone with a camera no matter what size and I don't mind playing the give and take game. If I see someone is trying to get a shot I'll motion for them to go ahead and then I'll get mine.

I'll help anyone that asks but some things I just don't know - like what is the best point & shoot camera for you to get for your wife. I haven't had any klingons so I guess I've been lucky.

I know what you mean - some people are like that :(
What I'd like to know is why people give me a P&S and ask me to take their photo - it's not like I know what I'm doing most of the time :)

Yeah, seriously, when shooting auto it doesn't really matter who the hell pushes the trigger, and I can't pick up any camera and figure out shooting manual using its controls and light meter in the 10 seconds people give me.

What is with that?

Let's see.

If I took a look at yous gear and use some common sense.

You have EF-s lenses, all digital and the rebel XT. Meaning when you were buying it, you didn't know a good camera from a bad one and didn't want to risk investing too much money into something you didn't know you'd "like that much". You don't get close enough to the subjects and use the 70-200 instead. It means you have probably never shot canon film before and started no earlier than the release of XT. You're the perfect consumer and canon succeded in selling. You probably have a gallery full of flowers and sunsets and other random crap. No understanding of lighting or composition. Your 50/1.8 is the most unused lens. The equipment looks unused and pampered.

And I'm trying to get a good shot and you're trying to start a conversation.

Just a hypothetical scenario.

By the way - the above post is hypothetical. I'd just imagine myself as someone who knows the stuff and is working for money. At a level where you become a distraction. Or as the above poster pointed out - a little horndog.

Or maybe I'm just antisocial and don't want to talk to anybody while I'm shooting? Just because both of us have a camera, doesn't mean we're best buddies or something.

Just remember at the end of the day they have to go home with themselves, and you don't. Nothing to get so worked up about.

Isn't Canon Japanese owned as well?

Hypothetical or not, whats the old story about judging a book by its cover?

I, with my 30D, and consumer level sigmas lenses, who has never shot film before, and dosn't own any primes, spent about 5 minutes today explaining basic studio light set up to a guy with a Nikon D2Xs and 3 high powered studio strobes and soft boxes that he couldn't get working properly.
He could afford the high end gear I couldn't, but knew how to use which he didn't.

So long and thanks for all the flash

I do event photography, and there is a certian photographer who does his best to get in 50 percent of my shots. which I guess since he is walking around with nikon equipment on a monopod he thinks he is special. Either that or he wants his picture taken with a good camera.
Canon 20d :)
