I just ran across what looks to me to be a good deal on a new 20D from Adorama in New York. http://www.adorama.com/ICA20D.html (external link)

I saw this earlier today, looks like a very good price to me, as long as it is not refurbished or used.

That looks like a decent price to me...the 20D is still a great camera and Adorama is a first rate retailer....no qualms about doing business with them.

If it was used or a refurb....it would be listed as such.

Looks like a winner. I bought my 20D from Adorama (through Amazon) and had no problems.

Just curious, what is wrong with refurbished?

Nothing if you don't mind buying a camera that has broke, or that was returned, sent back to Canon to fix and now is for sale again.

Ok, thanks for clearing it up. I had asked Adorama the same question...here was the email conversation:
Me: what is the condition of the camera body? Has it been used as a
demo? If so, how does it look cosmetically?
Them: Camera is perfectly new.
Me: How do you define refurbished? Is it flawed?
Them: Call manufacturer, they will explain it to you.
Me: [3 hours later] I just called them, and they told me they don't refurbish EOS bodies.
Them: Regardless, camera is like new with 90 day warrenty.

Hah.

I think there is some confussion here on one end or the other (maybe both ends). I have dealt with Adorama many times and along with B&H they are the two best to buy from. The offering does state "USA Warranty". If it were referb or demo or used it would plainly say so. I don't happen the need another 20D body (I have one), but if I were looking for a 1.6 crop fromat this would have to be it.

Did you consider the 30D from them? It is less than $200 more for the current model.

If that be the case I would have to really consider getting the 30D. I'm very comfortable with my 20D and not sure if the larger screen is worth it, but, yeah, I would get the 30D for that little difference.

That's a CRAPPY deal. I purchased my 30D at B&H (with 2x rebates) for only $50 more than the 20D at Adorama.

If you aren't planning on buying any of the rebate items I'll sell you my flash receipt for its rebate value so you can double up on your camera rebate. I've got about 5 rebate items to redeem.

Just to point somethiong out..

I read all the time where people send a lens in to Canon, tamron, Sigma or the Camera in to Canon to have a problem fixed, then ya read how they got it back and it is spot on perfect, like new.

So that said why the big deal over refurbished? I guess if anyone has a lens or camera repaired they should just chuck it. If Canon repairs a item to factory specs, then I do not see a problem with it.

My 20D is new but just an observation.

Save yourself even more money...
Buy yourself a nice, well looked after 'second user' camera from a reputable dealer.
I did, indeed I have bought most of my kit 'secondhand' - but you do need to be 'street savy' and commercially aware, there are plenty of Treicky Dicky's out there!
Good luck
