Family and Child Photography

After doing a lot of research I am convinced that the best way to start making money right away in the photography business is doing studio portraits. I was thinking about advertising with signs and brochures locally putting them in shops and community bulletin boards. Maybe an ad in the local paper?

Anyone have thoughts or ideas? Any help is much appreciated!!

If I were you, I'd start with shooting your own children, wife, husband, and attractive relatives, get a website so people can view some of your work when they get your brochures. Get teens if possible also...cuz they talk a lot and their friends will also want you to shoot them and the ball starts rolling. Just my two cents!!

I don't know about that. I'm adviser for the high school yearbook, and it seems that the bulk of the kids these days submit do-it-yourself portraits for their yearbook shots. I'm carving a niche in our community in terms of senior portrait shooting, but the vast majority of the kids opt not to have formal portraits done.
