Well, if you search back, way back, over a year ago, I was on a rather deserted street in Manhattan one early Sunday when I saw two shady characters walking my way. That's exactly what I was thinking, and so I swung my Velocity9 slingbag around and put my camera away. Only problem was that I thought I had the neck strap on but didn't.

Yep, the camera dropped to the concrete sidewalk, later requiring almost $600 in repair. The two I was worried about? I lost track of them as my eyes welled up with tears.

I had a nightmare a little kid stole my camera before I went to Mexico for a mission trip. No, they all were just over joyed to have their picture taken. :D

My home was recently burglarized, and some older camera equipment taken. I feel very fortunate that I had all my good gear with me at the time.

That sucks.... hope everything works out for you....

I have some people out in public give me evil 'im going to rob you of that camera' look.... but i think they are just jealous of seeing a fat camera with a gigantic white lens on it, and thats all... lol

It's a constant thought in my head when I'm shooting around most places in town. However it's probably a mostly unfounded fear, but the paranoia keeps me sharp.

At first I was nervous leaving late night football games carrying $15,000 worth of photo equipment especially the time when I arrived late and had to park in an unlit lot two blocks away. But now it's like, hey Buddy, every football player in the stadium knows I've been taking photos of them and believe me, you do NOT want to get on their bad side.

I haven't had any actual problems.

I was at a big local vintage car show last summer when I saw a '49 Mercedes diesel. I was really interested in that car, and like the car-guy that I am, I turned around it, had a look under the open hood, under the fenders, etc. A guy standing near the car, but not exactly besides it came to me and began to talk to me about it. He noticed my camera dangling around my neck (just an S2, but still my "baby") and suggested that I sit in the car while he took some pictures of me. I agreed, but once inside the car, I thought:

"How stupid am I, it's not even his car... and now he's got my camera, and I'm stuck inside this (cool) Mercedes."

The guy backed up slowly while aiming the camera, reinforcing the "tourist getting his camera stolen by fake samaritan" impression in me... When he said "Smile!" I was ready to open the door and run for him at the moment he'd turn his back.

But he gave it back to me. Hey, he even took 2 shots. :p

Picture of the car in question (external link), but without me in it.

That is why I have always had an attack Dachshund or two in the home to either keep burglers away, or turn them into tasty tidbits for the Doxies.
