I really like this shot. It's quite graphic with an agressive composition and this is helped by the fact that despite being fairly low and warm the lighting still appears directional on the lead rock. The blur of the waves contrasts nicely with the harsh edges of the rocks - nice one.

I love these type of shots, a lovely composition and exposure has captured the warm light well.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Great shot, the foreground really makes it.

I agrre here,as the bg doesn`t really offer anything special to the picture.

On the other hand though,if there was a nd grad used in the way i`m showing, the bg would have alot to offer.

But that of cours,is only MHO.:)

The scene offers a great possiblity. However, composition wise it doesn't work. There is very little horizon. If it had been created with about 1/3rd of the image sky it would have been great. I saw an entirely different approach ...

dv,

Thats EXACTLY why a set of ND filters are next on my list... being a poor college student is rough when it comes to photography... (don't tell anyone, but my tripod is also from walmart!)

D. Craig,

The sky unfortunately had very little to offer. There were no clouds and only a hint of color... the best option I had (in my opinion) was to minimize the sky and maximize something else. Lucky for me, this rock was in a great place for, what I consider, a good composition.

Sorry if it seems like I'm defending it, I'm not. I love discussion about any images, especially mine, I'm trying to help shed some light on what the setting was like. In fact, thats the majority of what makes me proud of this image... the conditions were mediocre at best and yet I came out with what I think is a fairly good image. As a new(ish) photographer, I consider that a success in itself.

Glad to hear your thoughts. Thanks guys.

That soft glow on the FG rocks makes this image for me, it provides a perfect anchor for the rest of the image, good composition and lead lines, I take Dimitri's point about a grad, I've tried to tweak the image, but the results are so-so, you have a dust spot that needs removing.
BTW, that image of yours 'Forgotten Chair' is an absolute classic.
