I've tried to tweak the image, but the results are so-so,

You can apply localised edits in photoshop without touching the foreground rocks.

silvex, as far as I can tell its still working... but photobucket could have had an issue for a few minutes. Anyone else not see it?

And Lesmac, thanks for catching that spot... thats one of the main reasons I post images on here... so people can catch the small (or large) things I overlook.

That soft glow on the FG rocks makes this image for me, it provides a perfect anchor for the rest of the image, good composition and lead lines, I take Dimitri's point about a grad, I've tried to tweak the image, but the results are so-so, you have a dust spot that needs removing.
BTW, that image of yours 'Forgotten Chair' is an absolute classic.

After Les mentioned the forgotten chair,i had to go and see it,absolutely correct, its stunning.
You`ve got some superb pictures in you gallery mate.;)

Les and Dimitri, thanks for the nice comments... you guys both have a good eye, that chair won 3rd prize in a local juried competition... the first of which I'd ever entered. Happy doesn't really do justice to how excited I was with that result.

PS- The main reason it means alot coming from you two is that I've looked at both your galleries on several occasions and learned quite a bit. So, thanks for that.

I agrre here,as the bg doesn`t really offer anything special to the picture.

On the other hand though,if there was a nd grad used in the way i`m showing, the bg would have alot to offer.

But that of cours,is only MHO.:)

Another way of achieving a similar effect would be to shoot in RAW and blend two differently exposed images.
For your image here I did'nt have raw of course but i created two images, one under exposed and one over exposed using curves.
I then did a layer mask to diagonally blend the darkened backgroung into the lighter foreground.

Forgive me for being long winded and also forgive me if I told you something you already knew:oops: Dave

Ps. I did a final curve adjustment on the final image to bring up the shiny foreground rocks.

I like your edit, david, thanks. I think the perfect result for this shot may be a blend of your edit and my original one...

Thanks for the insight and "how-to" if you will.
