Another "film until I die" has succumbed to the ease, convenience and immediacy of the digital age. Having for the last year habbitually picked up a 5Mp 'compact' when taking a camera for non-photographic trips due to the benefits of being able to downlaod images and email 'the snaps' to friends and family, I've finally accepted that digital really is much easier than film, especially when it comes to post-exposure image processing in the computer equivelent of a 'darkroom'. The crunch came whern I realised that I had to be able to view, re-take (if necessary), archive and copy photographs taken while on ecological surveys in areas that I can't return to (restricted access) and I can't rely on finding any film processing available before I leave the islands.
So now I will carry: cameras, lenses, tripod, monopod, spotting scope, binnoculars etc. as usual, plus: laptop, digital viewer/HDD, backup external HDD, software CDs (just in case), 3 books on digital photography/photoshop/computer repairs, a small electronics tool kit, satnav, satphone (with a speed dial to UK digital centre 
).
